This project developed a means for estimating the amount of water entering a hardboard siding-clad wall. The test specimens were subjected to simulated driving rain loads for specific deficiencies such as a missing length of sealant at the interface between the cladding and penetrating components (such as a window, ventilation duct or electrical outlet) and water infiltration was measured. The paper presents research results and the derivation of a water entry function that allows the estimation of water entry based on climate (rainfall intensity and wind speed).
